Who we are
Ganik is a pose guide and camera app for iPhone. It is operated by Nishadi Technologies Limited, a company in Nigeria (“Ganik”, “we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
This policy covers the Ganik app, our website at www.ganik.app, and support emails sent to contact@ganik.app. Our Terms of Service explain the rules for using Ganik.
The short version
- Ganik works mainly on your iPhone. Your photos, pose preferences and saved poses stay on your device unless you choose to share them.
- If you ask for AI pose guidance on a photo, that photo and your request go through our server to Google’s Gemini API. Our server keeps none of it once the request finishes or fails.
- Ganik doesn’t require an account, and we don’t sell your information, show ads or track you across other companies’ apps.
- With your permission, we collect analytics and crash reports to understand how Ganik is used and to fix problems. You can turn this off at any time.
- Apple handles payments. We receive subscription status from Apple through RevenueCat, never your card details.
Information on your device
Camera and photos
Ganik asks for camera access so you can take photos, and may ask for access to your photo library so you can save photos or choose one for guidance. You can change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
While you use the camera, Ganik analyzes the live view on your device to help with framing and posing. This analysis happens in the moment, on your iPhone, and is not sent to us or stored.
What Ganik saves locally
Ganik saves the following on your iPhone so the app works the way you set it up:
- your answers from onboarding, such as how confident you feel in photos, your main photo challenge, interests and preferred pose styles;
- poses you save and your camera settings;
- photos you take in Ganik and guidance you receive, if you keep them in the app.
We can’t see this information. It may be included in your iCloud or computer backups, depending on your Apple settings.
Sharing from Ganik
If you share a photo using the iOS share sheet, the app or person you share with handles it under their own terms and policies.
AI pose guidance
Ganik can give personalized posing suggestions for a photo, using Google’s Gemini API. This feature only runs when you ask for it. Ganik never uploads your photo library automatically and never streams your camera to us or to Google.
Before the first upload, Ganik asks for your permission to send photos to a third-party AI service.
What happens when you ask for guidance
- Ganik sends the photo you selected and your request to our server over an encrypted connection.
- Our server forwards them to the paid Gemini API and returns the suggestions to your iPhone.
- Once the request finishes or fails, our server deletes the photo, your request and the suggestions. We don’t write photo or request content to our logs.
To apply usage allowances and prevent abuse, our server records limited details about each request: when it was made, whether it succeeded, and the anonymous subscription identifier described below. These records never contain the photo or what you asked.
How Google handles guidance requests
Google processes guidance requests for us as a service provider under its data processing terms. Under the Gemini API Additional Terms, Google does not use content sent through the paid API to improve its products.
Google currently keeps prompts, the context sent with them (including photos) and the responses for 55 days to detect and prevent misuse and to meet legal requirements. If its safety systems flag content, authorized Google staff may review it. Google may also store this content briefly, or cache it, in any country where it has facilities. See Google’s abuse monitoring policy for details.
If a photo includes other people, only ask for guidance if they’re comfortable with that.
Analytics and diagnostics
With your permission, Ganik uses PostHog to understand how the app is used and to find and fix problems. This can include:
- feature usage, such as screens viewed, poses selected or saved, whether a photo was taken with guidance or a timer, and when the app is opened or closed;
- crash and error reports, including technical details of what went wrong;
- diagnostic logs that record app events, such as a pose being applied;
- device and app details, such as device model, iOS version, app version, language and time zone;
- a random identifier that PostHog creates for your installation of Ganik. It isn’t linked to your name, email or Apple ID;
- approximate location, such as country or city, which PostHog may derive from your IP address.
Analytics and diagnostics never include your photos or the content of guidance requests. You can turn them off at any time in Ganik’s settings. Turning them off stops future collection; it doesn’t delete what has already been sent.
PostHog processes this information for us in the United States.
Subscriptions and purchases
Ganik Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes your payment and handles your Apple ID and payment details. We never receive your card details.
We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat creates an anonymous identifier for your installation and receives information about your purchases from Apple, such as the product, purchase and renewal dates, transaction identifiers, subscription status and store country. We use this to unlock Pro features, restore purchases, apply usage allowances and handle billing questions.
Support requests
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use this to answer you and to improve Ganik.
Our website
Our website uses Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count visits. Umami doesn’t use cookies or store your full IP address. It records aggregate details such as the pages viewed, the referring site, browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and country.
Like any website, our hosting provider also receives standard connection details when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, and uses them to deliver and secure the site.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
- We don’t show ads or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
- We don’t use your photos to recognize or identify people. We don’t create face templates, faceprints or other biometric identifiers.
- We don’t use your photos or guidance requests to train AI models, and we don’t use them in marketing.
Why we use your information
Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on:
- providing the service you asked for: running the app’s features, giving guidance you request, and managing your subscription;
- your consent: sending photos for AI guidance, and collecting analytics and diagnostics. You can withdraw consent at any time;
- our legitimate interests: keeping Ganik secure, preventing misuse, operating our website and measuring visits to it, and answering support requests, where these interests aren’t outweighed by your rights;
- legal obligations: keeping purchase records for tax and accounting, and responding to lawful requests.
Who we share information with
We share information only as described in this policy, with service providers who process it for us:
- Google (Gemini API), for AI guidance you request;
- PostHog, for app analytics, crash reports and diagnostic logs;
- Umami, for website visit counts;
- RevenueCat, for subscription status;
- Apple, which runs the App Store, processes payments and provides device backups;
- hosting providers for our server and website.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety or our legal rights, or as part of a merger or sale of our business. If that happens, this policy will continue to apply to your information.
International transfers
We are based in Nigeria, and our service providers process information in other countries, including the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards recognized by applicable law, such as our providers’ contractual data protection commitments, when information is transferred outside your country.
How long we keep information
- On your device: until you delete it or delete Ganik. Copies in your backups follow your Apple backup settings.
- AI guidance content: our server keeps nothing after a request finishes or fails. Google keeps abuse-monitoring copies for 55 days, as described above.
- Request records: only as long as needed to apply your current usage allowance and prevent abuse.
- Analytics and diagnostics: only as long as useful for understanding product use and fixing problems, after which they are deleted.
- Purchase records: while your subscription is active, and afterwards for as long as needed for billing questions and as required by tax and accounting law.
- Support emails: as long as needed to resolve your request, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you follow up.
Security
We use encrypted connections between Ganik and our server, limit who can access our systems, and choose providers with established security practices. Our server doesn’t keep your photos, which limits what could be exposed. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the authorities of a breach where the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- change camera and photo permissions in iOS Settings;
- turn analytics and diagnostics on or off in Ganik’s settings;
- choose whether to request AI guidance at all;
- delete the information Ganik saves locally by deleting the app.
Deleting Ganik doesn’t cancel your subscription; manage that in your Apple ID settings. Deleting the app also doesn’t delete records held by RevenueCat, PostHog or us. To ask us to delete those, email us.
Depending on where you live, including under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the GDPR in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent.
To make a request, email contact@ganik.app. Ganik has no accounts, so we may ask for details that help us find your records, such as the email you used to contact us or an App Store order ID. We’ll respond within the time the law requires.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. In Nigeria, that is the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. In the EEA or UK, you can contact your local supervisory authority. We’d appreciate the chance to help first.
Children
Ganik is only for people aged 18 and over, and is not directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has used Ganik, contact us and we’ll delete the information we hold about them.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy when Ganik or the law changes, and we’ll change the “last updated” date above. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we’ll tell you in the app or on our website before it takes effect, and ask for your consent where the law requires.
